A devastating accident occurred early Sunday on the Eko Bridge inward Alaka corridor, claiming the lives of two dispatch riders after a fatal collision between two fully loaded Mack trucks with registration numbers T-10357 LA and KJA 107 XM. The tragedy has triggered widespread grief across Lagos and raised urgent concerns about road safety, especially involving articulated vehicles.
Preliminary reports indicate that one of the truck drivers, allegedly speeding and dozing off behind the wheel, lost control and rammed into another moving truck ahead. The violent impact caused a 20-foot container to become dislodged and fall, crushing the two dispatch riders who were traveling nearby. Both victims were confirmed dead at the scene.

Officers of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), already on routine patrol under the bridge, were quick to respond. One of the truck drivers sustained severe injuries and was promptly rescued and transported to a nearby hospital by a Lagos State Government ambulance. The remaining two truck drivers fled the scene, reportedly out of fear of the consequences of the accident.
To protect other road users and prevent further hazards, LASTMA officials immediately cordoned off the affected stretch of the bridge and diverted traffic through the Costain Roundabout inward Alaka toward the National Stadium.

LASTMA General Manager, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, expressed his condolences to the families of the deceased and lamented the avoidable loss of lives. He emphasized the importance of responsible and alert driving, especially among operators of heavy-duty vehicles, urging all drivers to ensure roadworthiness and caution before setting out.
Bakare-Oki also reiterated the agency’s commitment to ongoing public awareness campaigns focused on road safety and driver education, particularly targeting drivers of articulated trucks and commercial vehicles.

Investigations are currently in progress to identify and apprehend the two fleeing truck drivers involved in the crash. Authorities have assured the public that justice will be pursued.
Emergency responders at the scene included the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps (LNSC), the State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit (SEHMU), and officers from the Iporin Division of the Nigeria Police Force.
