Two people lost their lives, and at least two firefighters sustained injuries in a large fire that erupted in a Brooklyn apartment building on Sunday, displacing numerous residents.

The fire, which broke out in Bath Beach, also led to the displacement of dozens of individuals. CBS New York's Derick Waller reported from the scene, where fire investigators were concentrating on a second-floor apartment.

Witnesses reported seeing a man engulfed in flames and heard screams during the incident.

Cellphone footage captured the intense blaze consuming an apartment while a woman pleaded for help outside.

The fire started around 6:45 p.m. and was brought under control in just over an hour by fire crews.

The FDNY confirmed the tragic deaths of two individuals inside the building.

Witnesses recounted harrowing scenes, including one person on fire whom others were unable to assist.

The Red Cross is providing assistance to displaced residents, including families with young children, who were forced out onto the streets due to the fire.

While some residents expressed shock at the incident, citing previous minor incidents involving the same apartment, Sunday's fire resulted in a tragic outcome.

Fortunately, the injuries sustained by the two firefighters were reported as minor. Fire investigators are now working to determine the cause of the blaze.
