Two men were stabbed during Wednesday morning rush hour at New York City’s Grand Central Station, prompting heightened security concerns as violence continues to plague the city’s subway system.

The NYPD responded to a report of a stabbing around 7:20 a.m. in the Mezzanine area of the busy transit hub. Officers discovered two male victims with stab wounds inflicted by an unidentified assailant. A 28-year-old man sustained a stab wound to the abdomen, while a 32-year-old man was stabbed in both the abdomen and buttocks.

Both victims were transported to NYC Health and Hospitals/Bellevue in stable condition. Authorities confirmed that the suspect fled the station in an unknown direction. No arrests have been made, and the investigation remains ongoing.

According to preliminary details, the incident was sparked by an argument on a southbound 5 train between the 32-year-old victim and the attacker. During the altercation, the suspect produced a knife and stabbed the man. The 28-year-old appeared to be a bystander caught in the violence.

A person of interest who was initially detained was later released after police determined they were not connected to the attack. The suspect remains at large.

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) stated that subway service was not disrupted by the incident and continued during the morning commute.

This latest stabbing follows a separate violent incident at Grand Central just weeks earlier. On May 31, a 28-year-old man was stabbed in the hand and punched in the nose during a dispute over a bicycle blocking elevator doors on the mezzanine level of the 7 train platform.

Concern is growing among New Yorkers as violence in the subway system continues to rise. In 2024 alone, the city's transit system has recorded 10 murders—twice the number reported in 2023. Regular commuters have expressed increasing frustration and fear, citing both safety concerns and rising costs such as traffic tolls as barriers to reliable and secure travel throughout the city.
