Tragedy struck just 32 seconds after takeoff when a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner crashed en route to London, claiming the lives of all passengers on board except one. Among the deceased was a London-based Indian family of five who had been preparing for a new life in the United Kingdom.
Pratik Joshi, a software professional with six years of work experience in London, had recently returned to India to accompany his family for a permanent relocation. His wife, Dr. Komi Vyas, a physician who had recently resigned from her position at a hospital in Udaipur, and their three young children—twin sons Nakul and Pradyut, both five years old, and their eight-year-old daughter, Miraya—were all aboard the doomed flight.

The family's final photo together, a selfie taken by Pratik inside the aircraft moments before takeoff, showed smiling faces and hopeful expressions. That image has now become a symbol of devastating loss and unfulfilled dreams.
The aircraft crashed within moments of departure, sending shockwaves across India, the United Kingdom, and the global aviation community. Officials confirmed that the crash also caused fatalities on the ground, compounding the tragedy.
The lone survivor, British national Vishwashkumar Ramesh, was thrown from the aircraft during the explosion. He managed to walk to an ambulance, bloodied and disoriented, and was later identified and treated at a local hospital. His survival is being described as miraculous.
Investigations into the cause of the crash are ongoing. Aviation authorities have yet to provide a definitive explanation for the rapid descent and explosion, but global attention is focused on potential mechanical failure or structural malfunction.
The loss of the Joshi-Vyas family has sent ripples of grief through both nations. Their journey was meant to mark the beginning of a new chapter—a life of stability, opportunity, and family unity in the United Kingdom. Instead, their names are now etched into the record of one of the worst aviation tragedies in recent Indian history.
