A man posing as a doctor in Queens has been arrested after a botched medical procedure left a woman brain dead in his illegal home clinic.
The 31-year-old victim visited Felipe Hoyos-Foronda’s unlicensed liposuction clinic on 35th Street near 20th Road in Ditmars Steinway around 1 p.m. Friday to have butt implants removed. Hoyos-Foronda, who falsely claimed to be a doctor from Colombia, attempted the procedure but administered lidocaine through a syringe, causing the woman to go into cardiac arrest, according to court documents.
Emergency responders rushed the victim to Mount Sinai Queens Hospital, where she was intubated and listed in critical condition. Medical professionals noted signs of lidocaine toxicity and reported that she had no brain activity.

Meanwhile, Hoyos-Foronda fled the scene. A friend of the victim later arrived at the illegal clinic to retrieve her belongings and was informed by the landlord about the incident. She immediately contacted the police.
Authorities tracked Hoyos-Foronda’s vehicle to the Van Wyck Expressway, and Port Authority officers apprehended him at JFK Airport as he was attempting to board a flight. He was taken into custody and charged with second-degree assault and unauthorized practice of a profession.
During his arraignment on Sunday, Hoyos-Foronda was ordered to be held without bail and is scheduled to reappear in court on Thursday.
The victim remained unconscious in the hospital as of Wednesday. Authorities have released a photo of Hoyos-Foronda and urged any other potential victims to come forward.
