Suzanne Mericle, a 61-year-old dentist, has been charged with the murder of her boyfriend, James David Barron, 68, at their home on St. Simons Island, Georgia. Mericle allegedly shot Barron at their residence early in the morning on Saturday, March 8, 2025.

At around 1:15 a.m., deputies from the Hall County Sheriff's Office responded to the scene, located about 83 miles south of Savannah, where they found Barron deceased from a gunshot wound to the torso. Authorities claim Mericle was present at the home when they arrived. Barron was later transported to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Mericle faces multiple charges, including murder, tampering with evidence, aggravated assault, and weapon possession. She is being held without bond at the Hall County Jail, although it is unclear whether she has entered a plea or obtained legal representation.

The couple resided in a luxurious 3,900 square foot home on Bayridge Drive on St. Simons Island, a destination known for its beautiful beaches, golf courses, and historic charm. The island was recently named one of the best beach towns in 2025 by Southern Living magazine.

Patients of Mericle's dental practice, including Betty Newman, expressed shock over the crime. Newman, whose children were patients of Mericle, posted on social media: "She had to be living a double life. She is/was my kids' dentist. Literally had an appointment this Monday the 10th. Wild!"
