A woman sustained critical injuries after falling from the top of a 90-foot open drawbridge in Miami on Saturday morning in a shocking incident caught on video. The fall occurred around 10:45 a.m. on the drawbridge connecting downtown Miami to the Brickell neighborhood.
Video captured by a bystander shows the woman clinging to the top of the raised span before losing her grip and sliding down, eventually crashing onto the pavement below. Witnesses were left stunned as the terrifying moment unfolded in broad daylight.
“She was trying to climb up the bridge,” said eyewitness Conor Walsh. “As she got halfway up, she was holding on to the side — and then she just dropped. Three police cars, the medic. It was pretty, pretty hectic.”
Miami police confirmed the woman, who remains unidentified, suffered at least two broken legs and was rushed to a nearby hospital in critical condition. Authorities are investigating the incident and noted that witnesses reported she may have been under the influence of an unknown substance at the time. Some onlookers also claimed the woman was behaving erratically, with unverified reports suggesting she may have been engaging in lewd behavior atop the bridge.
Another witness, Robert Bruno, described the scene as “intense,” saying many people nearby did not immediately grasp the severity of what had just happened. “The woman held on for dear life,” he recalled.
The bridge was temporarily closed as first responders and investigators assessed the situation. The Miami Police Department has launched a formal investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
