Young Boxer Found Dead in a River After Going Missing in Somerset

A 22-year-old boxer, Jack Ayres, was found dead less than 12 hours after he was last seen in the early hours of March 3. His body was discovered in a river near Sharpham Drove at approximately 1:45 p.m. on the same day. Avon and Somerset Police responded to reports of a body in the water, and a post-mortem examination identified drowning as the preliminary cause of death.

His family expressed their grief in a statement, describing him as a much-loved son, grandson, brother, cousin, nephew, and boyfriend. They emphasized their desire to understand the events leading up to his passing.

Pyramid Boxing Club, where Jack trained, also paid tribute, calling him a talented young boxer, a friend, and a family man. They expressed deep sorrow over his loss and extended condolences to his family and friends.

Authorities are appealing for any information or CCTV footage that could help establish Jack's movements before his death. His last known location was around 2:30 a.m. on March 3, when he was seen walking along Sharpham Drove.

Detective Chief Inspector Clement Goodwin stated that while there were no signs of physical injury, making foul play unlikely, the death is currently classified as unexplained pending further investigation. Officers have been reviewing nearby CCTV footage and are urging motorists who were in the area at the time to check dashcam recordings for any relevant footage.
