A 27-year-old mother of four, Brittney Sherman, tragically lost her life in a devastating boat crash in Saraland, Alabama, on Sunday evening. The accident, which occurred on Bayou Sara near Mobile, also left her four-year-old son, Carson, critically injured.
The Sherman family—Brittney, her husband Cody, and their children—were on board a boat that collided with another vessel just before 6 p.m. The impact of the crash threw Brittney into the bayou’s muddy waters. Rescue teams and divers launched a search operation that lasted through the night, and her body was recovered the next morning approximately 100 yards from where she went overboard.

Cody Sherman and Carson both sustained serious injuries and were transported to a nearby hospital. As of Wednesday evening, Carson remains in critical condition but is showing signs of improvement. He has been taken off a ventilator, though he still faces a long road to recovery.
Authorities have identified 19-year-old Robert Lofton as the operator of the boat carrying the Sherman family. The other boat was reportedly steered by 52-year-old Jerry Hocutt Jr. Both operators emerged from the crash uninjured. No charges have been filed, and the cause of the collision remains under investigation. The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency has not released additional information at this time.

The tragic incident has left Cody Sherman to raise the couple’s four children alone, including a baby daughter born in January. In an emotional tribute posted on Facebook, Cody described Brittney as his high school sweetheart and vowed to care for their children in her honor.
“Brittney, I love you more than anything in this world,” he wrote. “Please show me how to do this. I’m not sure how I’m gonna make it, but I’m gonna do my best to make you proud.”

He also shared a heartfelt update on Carson’s condition: “Carson is a strong fighter. He beat me up today,” Cody said, referencing his son's spirited progress. “They removed the ventilator today and he is doing good. He has a long road ahead, but he’s a fighter.”
The boating accident has sent shockwaves through the community, sparking an outpouring of prayers and support for the grieving family.
