An armored truck transporting approximately $800,000 in newly minted dimes overturned in northwest Texas, spilling an estimated eight million coins across the highway and prompting an extensive clean-up operation. The crash occurred early Tuesday morning near the town of Alvord, Texas, leading to a highway shutdown that lasted nearly 14 hours.

The incident involved an 18-wheeler operated by United States Armored Company, a division of Western Distributing Transportation Corp. specializing in the transportation of government cargo. According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the truck veered off the road and flipped, resulting in minor injuries to both the driver and a passenger, who were transported to a local hospital for treatment.

A DPS trooper at the scene reported that the truck was carrying approximately eight million dimes when it crashed. Emergency response and clean-up crews were deployed to recover the scattered currency. Video footage from the scene showed workers using industrial vacuums connected to specialized trucks to collect the spilled coins. Additional crews were seen manually sifting through soil to recover loose dimes, while street sweepers were brought in to assist with the recovery effort.
Personnel from the armored transport company also participated in the clean-up to secure the government-issued currency. Residents of Wise County gathered at the scene, with some expressing astonishment at the unusual spill. One passerby, Sebastian Vasquez, commented humorously that he nearly brought a bucket to collect dimes after seeing the aftermath.
Authorities confirmed that no hazardous materials were onboard the truck aside from the coins. The affected stretch of highway was reopened to traffic at approximately 7:30 p.m. It remains unclear whether the full amount of $800,000 in dimes was recovered or what the truck’s original destination was.
