Tamilore Odunsi, a 23-year-old nursing student just days away from graduating, was fatally stabbed in her Houston apartment in what authorities say was a violent altercation with her roommate over their pets.

The suspect, 40-year-old Chester Lamar Grant, is accused of stabbing Odunsi multiple times following a dispute about the cats they kept in their shared apartment. Police say that after the fatal attack, Grant allegedly attempted to take his own life by stabbing himself six times, including once in the neck.

The tragic incident occurred on April 26 when officers conducted a welfare check at Odunsi’s residence. Blood was visible on the rear patio, prompting entry into the apartment, where police discovered Odunsi deceased from multiple stab wounds. Grant was also found at the scene with serious injuries and was transported to a hospital in critical condition.

Authorities revealed that Odunsi and Grant had only lived together for approximately two months before the deadly encounter. The argument over the cats reportedly escalated into a violent confrontation that ended with Odunsi's death and Grant’s self-inflicted wounds.

Organizers described Odunsi as “a beautiful soul, full of light, ambition and kindness” who had moved to the United States to pursue her dream of becoming a nurse and dedicating her life to helping others.

Her sudden and violent death has devastated loved ones and supporters around the world. What should have been the start of a promising future turned into an unimaginable tragedy, cutting short the life of a young woman full of potential, joy, and generosity.
