Country music singer Conner Smith was identified as the driver in a fatal pedestrian accident that occurred Sunday evening, June 8, in downtown Nashville. According to the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department, 77-year-old Dorothy Dobbins was struck while crossing 3rd Avenue North at approximately 7:30 p.m.

Preliminary reports indicate that Dobbins was in a marked crosswalk when she was hit by a Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck driven by Smith, 24, who was heading northbound. Police stated the initial contributing factor appears to be Smith’s failure to yield the right of way to the pedestrian. Authorities confirmed that Smith showed no signs of impairment at the scene and that no charges have been filed as the investigation remains ongoing.

Dobbins, a nearby resident, was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where she later died from her injuries.

Smith’s attorney issued a statement expressing condolences to the Dobbins family and confirmed that Smith is fully cooperating with authorities.

A rising star in the country music scene, Nashville-born Smith is signed to The Valory Music Co., an imprint of Big Machine Records. He gained national attention with his viral 2021 hit "I Hate Alabama" and released his debut album Smoky Mountains in January 2024, which includes the gold-certified radio single "Creek Will Rise." Smith was nominated for New Male Artist of the Year at the 2024 ACM Awards and was scheduled to be a special guest on Luke Bryan's 2025 Country Song Came On Tour.

The tragic accident occurred on the final day of the 2025 CMA Fest, just one day after Smith performed at the Chevy Riverfront Stage and participated in a charity softball game at Nashville’s First Horizon Park.
