A Dix Hills man has been arrested and charged for allegedly plotting to kidnap and murder a former business associate over a multimillion-dollar construction dispute. Authorities say 48-year-old Navdeep Singh offered $100,000 and 10 acres of land in India to a man he believed was a hitman, in exchange for carrying out the brutal plan.

Singh was arraigned on Sunday, June 9, before Judge Lisa Locurto on charges of Conspiracy in the Second Degree, a Class B felony, and Criminal Solicitation in the Second Degree, a Class D felony. Bail was set at $1 million cash, $2 million bond, and $5 million partially secured bond. Singh was ordered to surrender his passport and is scheduled to return to court on June 10, 2025. If convicted, he faces up to 25 years in prison.

According to investigators, Singh was embroiled in a years-long civil lawsuit with the intended victim, a former business partner with whom he had worked through his company, Gravity Construction Corp. The two construction companies had been involved in a high-stakes legal battle for nearly two years, stemming from a contract dispute after Singh’s company was removed from a construction project.

Between May 29 and June 3, 2025, Singh allegedly met several times with a co-conspirator to discuss a detailed plan to kidnap the victim, take him out of state, torture him for information and money, and ultimately kill him. To facilitate the plot, Singh allegedly supplied photos of the victim’s home and vehicle to assist in identifying and tracking the target.

In addition to promising a large financial and land reward, Singh reportedly purchased burner phones to conceal communications related to the conspiracy and paid the would-be assassin a $7,000 down payment. Singh was arrested by Nassau County Police Department’s District Attorney Squad in Manhasset on June 7, after he was allegedly seen circling the victim’s residence again.

District Attorney Anne T. Donnelly called the alleged plot "deeply disturbing," emphasizing that the meticulous plan stemmed from a business rivalry turned deadly. “Singh was allegedly willing to pay a large sum of money and offer land overseas to brutally torture, extort, and kill his former colleague,” she said. “Thanks to the outstanding work of law enforcement, we saved a life this past weekend.”

Nassau County Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder commended the rapid coordination of law enforcement, saying the suspect’s actions posed a serious threat to public safety. “This was a very dangerous situation,” he said. “Thanks to the hard work of our District Attorney Squad and prosecutors, we prevented what would have been a tragedy.”

The investigation is being led by the Pharmaceutical Diversion and Cybercrimes Unit of the Organized Crimes and Rackets Bureau. Singh was represented at arraignment by The Legal Aid Society. He remains in custody, and all charges are allegations at this stage.
