Eight ISIS-Linked Individuals Arrested Across Three US Cities, Face Deportation
Authorities have arrested eight individuals with ties to ISIS in Los Angeles, Philadelphia, and New York City, according to officials. The suspects, originally from Tajikistan, entered the country last year after undergoing vetting with no detected national security risks.
Recent discoveries of "derogatory information" revealed their connections to the terrorist group, prompting their search and arrest. While authorities work on building evidence for terrorism charges, the suspects are currently detained in ICE custody and are facing deportation.
The FBI and the Department of Homeland Security released a statement acknowledging the arrests and the ongoing collaboration with the FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Forces to address heightened national security threats.
The Department of Homeland Security has also taken proactive steps, including publishing a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM) through the US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). This proposal aims to apply statutory bars to asylum earlier in the process, enabling faster removal of individuals deemed a security risk to better safeguard the nation's borders and security.
Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas emphasized the importance of these measures in ensuring public safety and swiftly addressing security threats.
