The Federal High Court in Abuja has reassigned the case of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), to a new judge. The decision was made by Justice John Tsoho, the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, following developments in the ongoing trial.
Kanu was previously facing trial before Justice Binta Nyako; however, concerns arose after he accused the judge of bias. While Justice Nyako sought to recuse herself from the case, her request was denied by the Chief Judge.
Confirming the reassignment, Kanu’s lead counsel, Aloy Ejimakor, stated that his client is fully prepared to continue with the legal proceedings.
Ejimakor revealed that the legal team received two official letters regarding the case. One letter, from the Chief Justice of Nigeria, was in response to a request from Kanu’s legal representatives seeking administrative intervention for a lawful reassignment of the case. The second letter formally informed the team of the reassignment to a new judge.
Kanu expressed appreciation for the decision of the Chief Judge and commended the public for their continued support since his arrest and detention.
