A Florida woman, Tyshael Elise Martin, 34, has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder, aggravated child abuse, and child neglect, after police believe she directed a dog to fatally maul her ex-boyfriend's nine-year-old daughter. The Lake County Sheriff's Office took Martin into custody on Wednesday, and she is currently being held without bond.

The tragic incident occurred on June 17, when emergency responders were called to a home in Monteverde, Florida, to treat an unresponsive child. Paramedics arrived to find nine-year-old Jamaria Sessions, the daughter of Martin's ex-boyfriend, severely injured and unresponsive. Despite their efforts, the young girl was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to Martin, she woke up that morning, ready for a family trip to California, when she found Sessions unresponsive. However, EMS workers observed multiple signs of abuse, including bruises, burns, and bite marks on the child's body. A preliminary medical examiner's report suggested that Sessions had suffered extensive abuse.

When the girl's father, Lojuan Sessions, arrived, he was reportedly in shock, believing his daughter had already traveled to California on June 9 to visit family. Martin had allegedly texted him on June 10, claiming that her mother had taken Sessions out of state. Due to being on felony probation, Lojuan was unable to accompany his daughter on the trip.

As the investigation unfolded, deputies obtained a search warrant and reviewed surveillance footage from the home. The disturbing footage revealed that Martin had allegedly held the leash of the family's Rottweiler and instructed the dog to attack the child. The video also showed Martin allegedly kicking, shaking, and dragging the girl's body across the floor, and investigators believe she may have said, "I'm fixin' to kill her."

Further evidence suggested that Jamaria Sessions had endured frequent physical abuse. The medical examiner determined that the girl died from multiple blunt force injuries to the head, torso, and extremities, as well as thermal injuries to her right foot. Her death was ruled a homicide.

Martin remains in custody at the Lake County Jail and was denied bond.
