Chelsea Perkins, a former U.S. Coast Guard member who later became an OnlyFans model, has pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in the execution-style killing of 31-year-old Matthew Dunmire at Cuyahoga Valley National Park near Cleveland, Ohio.
According to court records, Perkins lured Dunmire into the Terra Vista Natural Study Area of the park on March 6, 2021. Hikers later discovered his body on March 9 with a single gunshot wound to the back of the head and an Aquafina water bottle lying nearby. DNA testing later matched Perkins to both the bottle and Dunmire’s body.
Investigators traced Dunmire’s final days and learned he had gone out with friends to a bar on March 5. He told them he was going to meet a woman visiting for the weekend. His boss saw him leave in a white vehicle registered to Perkins’ husband. Authorities later confirmed Perkins had rented an Airbnb that night using her credit card.
Following their night together, Perkins messaged her tattoo artist in metro Detroit, saying she would be stopping somewhere in Cleveland before heading to Michigan. That stop, investigators believe, was the scene of the murder.
Witnesses in the park reported hearing a gunshot around 11:30 a.m. to 11:50 a.m. on March 6. Other hikers encountered a woman, later identified as Perkins, wandering the area wearing knee-high boots—odd attire for hiking.
Following the killing, Perkins drove to Michigan for her tattoo appointment. Weeks later, FBI agents located the same white vehicle parked outside her husband’s residence in Virginia. Perkins was linked to the crime through forensic evidence, including DNA on the water bottle and Dunmire’s body.
Perkins, who used the alias “Sabrina Savage” on OnlyFans, had previously alleged that Dunmire raped her in Virginia Beach. However, local authorities determined there was insufficient evidence to pursue charges against Dunmire.
The case took a dark turn in November 2021 when Dunmire’s grieving parents, frustrated over the lack of an arrest, attempted vigilante justice. His mother, Tommie Lynn Dunmire, and father, John Nelson McQuillen, drove to Washington, D.C., to confront Perkins. Disguised as a UPS driver, Tommie Lynn knocked on an apartment door and shot a woman she believed to be Perkins. The victim, who had no connection to the case, survived the shooting.
As law enforcement closed in, Tommie Lynn fatally shot herself. McQuillen was arrested and later pleaded guilty to being an accessory after the fact to assault with intent to kill. He was sentenced to three years in prison.
Dunmire, described in his obituary as a “free spirit who loved music, loved playing his guitar, and loved being with his friends,” was remembered fondly by family and friends.
Chelsea Perkins now faces 20 to 25 years in federal prison, with sentencing scheduled for September 9.
