The Edo State Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Dr. Tony Aziegbemi, was kidnapped by armed men near his residence in Benin City.
The incident occurred shortly after the party's governorship primaries, which selected Mr. Asue Ighodalo as the candidate for the upcoming election.
Aziegbemi was trailed by his abductors in two Toyota Corolla cars and was taken from his jeep around 11 pm Friday night on Osaro Street off Country Home road. He had left a night meeting at the government house and was not accompanied by police protection.
The driver recounted the kidnapping, stating that they noticed a car trailing them, leading them to take a different route.
However, the abductors caught up at a speed breaker point, blocked their car, and took Aziegbemi at gunpoint.
The kidnappers left Aziegbemi's car along Sapele Road and fled with him in their vehicles. Security agencies and government officials are at the scene, and the police have launched an operation to rescue Aziegbemi.
