Governor Sim Fubara of Rivers State expressed his readiness to step down from his position in pursuit of lasting peace for the state, as he stated in an interview on Thursday.

Fubara affirmed, “No sacrifice will be too big for me to pay for the success of this administration... My interest and love for our dear state is genuine.” He clarified that his motivation wasn't driven by political gain but rather by a sincere commitment to the well-being of the populace.

Acknowledging the concerns of the people amidst political turmoil, Fubara emphasized, “My burden wasn’t the issue of all the drama... It is the millions of Rivers people who had made sacrifices, who are seeing opportunity, and it looks as if their hopes are being dashed.” He underscored that his primary concern lay with the welfare of the citizens rather than his personal ambitions.

In a poignant declaration, Fubara stated, “If leaving this position is what I need or what is needed to bring more peace in this state, I can even tell the people to come and take it. It is not about me.” He reiterated his selfless commitment to prioritizing the peace and stability of Rivers State above his own political tenure.

Despite holding the position of governor, Fubara emphasized the importance of exercising restraint in the face of crisis. He reflected, “I am the governor. No matter what it is, there are things I could have done and there would have been a total crisis, but the ability to restrain in the face of crisis when you have the power to do things is maturity.” This acknowledgment of the responsibility that comes with power underscores his dedication to preserving peace and avoiding further turmoil.
