Operatives of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested five suspects in connection with the abduction and illegal sale of a two-week-old baby boy. The child has since been rescued and is currently in safe custody pending reunion with his biological mother.
The case was first reported at the Ajah Police Division on May 5, 2025, by a man who expressed concern over the disappearance of his 16-year-old cousin, identified as Miss Happiness. According to the complaint, the teenager had been impregnated by an unidentified individual and was handed over to one Nonye Osi for support due to financial hardship.
However, police investigations revealed that Nonye Osi conspired with others to move the young mother to an undisclosed location. When she was eventually located, she was no longer pregnant, and the baby was missing.
The case was transferred to the SCID, where a comprehensive investigation led to the arrest of five suspects: Nonye Osi (female), Akintan Adedayo (female), Jimoh Bashiru (male), Elizabeth Bishop (female), and Bukola Oladapo (female). The suspects allegedly conspired and sold the newborn for ₦3 million.
Detectives tracked the baby to Agemuwo in the Badagry area of Lagos, where he was safely recovered. The Gender/Anti-Human Trafficking Unit of the SCID is currently caring for the child, who is reported to be in good health.
The Lagos State Police Command affirmed its commitment to protecting residents, especially vulnerable individuals, and assured the public that all involved in the crime will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.
A similar child trafficking incident occurred in 2024, when a 39-year-old man in Bauchi State was arrested for attempting to sell his five-year-old daughter for ₦1.5 million.
