Grammy-winning artist Lil Nas X pleaded not guilty on Monday to four felony charges stemming from an incident in Los Angeles where police allege he assaulted officers after being found wandering the streets in his underwear.
A Los Angeles judge set bail at $75,000 and ordered the “Old Town Road” hitmaker to attend Narcotics Anonymous meetings as part of his release conditions. Authorities said they believed the musician was under the influence of drugs at the time of the confrontation, though his attorney, Christy O’Connor, denied the claim, insisting he was not using illegal substances and describing the event as an aberration in his life.

Lil Nas X, whose real name is Montero Lamar Hill, faces three counts of battery on a police officer and one count of resisting an officer. Police allege multiple officers were injured when the singer charged at them during the encounter.
The rapper rose to fame with “Old Town Road,” which became a record-breaking hit and earned him two Grammy Awards. He also made history as the first openly gay man to receive a Country Music Association Award.
The case remains ongoing as the musician prepares to face trial.
