A man identified as Kelvin Okoro has been arrested for allegedly murdering Reverend Sister Maureen Wecheonwu in the Aluu community of Ikwerre Local Government Area, Rivers State. The incident has sparked outrage in the community and raised concerns about rising violence over financial disputes.
According to reports, Okoro owed the deceased a substantial amount of money. Reverend Sister Maureen had been persistently requesting repayment from Okoro before her tragic death. Sources indicate that Okoro lured her under the pretense of settling the debt but instead led her to a secluded location where he allegedly attacked and killed her.
Her lifeless body was discovered in a pool of blood by local residents, who immediately alerted the community's vigilante group. According to one source familiar with the situation, the nun had been openly discussing her frustrations over the unpaid debt, unaware that Okoro may have had sinister intentions.
After the discovery of her body, members of the community noted Okoro’s sudden disappearance, prompting a manhunt by the local security outfit known as OSPAC. The operation was led by Vigilante Commander Kingsley Wali, who tracked Okoro to his hideout. He was apprehended and subsequently handed over to the police for further investigation.
It was also confirmed that Okoro had taken some of the Reverend Sister’s personal belongings after the alleged murder.
The spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed the arrest and disclosed that the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Department (SCIID) for a thorough investigation.
