Tragedy has struck in Lagos as the body of a missing 26-year-old banker, Osemudiamen Idemudia, was discovered days after his family declared him missing. Idemudia, who worked in the Point-of-Sale department of a commercial bank in the Ikota area, was last seen on the evening of May 9 in the CMS area of Lagos Island.
His family confirmed the grim discovery on Sunday, May 18, when a relative, identified simply as Segun, located his body at a morgue in the Yaba area after an exhaustive search across hospitals and mortuaries in the state. The deceased was reportedly found with deep machete cuts to his head, face, and legs, sparking suspicions of foul play.
“We found Osemudiamen’s body on Sunday in a morgue at Yaba. He was murdered. There were machete cuts on his head, face, and legs,” Segun stated, describing the discovery as heartbreaking.
According to Segun, the morgue attendants claimed that police had deposited the corpse but failed to provide information about the officers involved or the location from which the body was recovered. “They had no record of the policemen or the exact place where the corpse was found. That has made things even more complicated,” he added.
Idemudia’s family buried him on Tuesday.
His father, Julius, recounted that his son had left his office with a colleague on May 9 for an appointment with a senior staff member at the bank’s CMS headquarters. However, upon arrival, the meeting was abruptly cancelled.

After parting ways with his colleague in the CMS area, Osemudiamen was expected to board a bus to Iyana Ipaja, followed by another to his residence in Igando. But he never made it home.
“When it started getting late and we hadn’t heard from him, we became worried,” Julius said. “After 24 hours of silence, we reported him missing. It was completely out of character for him to disappear without any contact.”
The case was reported at the Igando Police Station, close to the Akesan area where Osemudiamen lived. However, the circumstances surrounding his death remain unclear, and no further information has been released by law enforcement.
Efforts to reach the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, were unsuccessful. Calls to his mobile phone went unanswered, and a text message sent to him has yet to receive a reply.
The family is now demanding a thorough investigation into the suspicious death, calling on authorities to uncover the truth and bring those responsible to justice.
