The family of 19-year-old twin brothers, Qaadir Malik Lewis and Naazir Rahim Lewis, who were found dead with gunshot wounds on Bell Mountain, Georgia, on March 8, is calling for deeper investigation after newly surfaced surveillance footage and travel details raise more questions surrounding their deaths.

Newly reviewed video shows the twins entering a Shell gas station in Lawrenceville, Georgia, around 10:30 p.m. on March 7—roughly 12 hours before hikers discovered their bodies at the Bell Mountain summit, 90 miles away. In the footage, the young men appear calm, drinking water and eating snacks, and are dressed casually, as they normally would be. According to their aunt, Samira Brawner, there were no signs of distress or unusual behavior.

The family also revealed that the brothers had scheduled a flight to Boston early that morning and took an Uber to the airport. However, the ride did not arrive on time, causing them to miss their flight and change plans. They were later found with their unused plane tickets still in their pockets.

Now, relatives are questioning how the twins made the journey to Bell Mountain in their unreliable car, and how they were able to access the closed park after 9 p.m. when they were still seen in Lawrenceville. There is no known connection between the brothers and Bell Mountain.

Despite the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) completing autopsies, the official cause and manner of death remain undetermined, pending additional forensic tests. The GBI and the Towns County Sheriff's Office initially stated that the incident appeared to be a murder-suicide, but the family disputes this narrative.

“They were a bright light on some of my darkest days and were some of my biggest supporters,” said the twins’ older sister, Kairee Powell. Their aunt, Yasmine Brawner, emphasized, “My nephews wouldn’t do this! They came from a family of love and had dreams of starting their own clothing line.”

The family has since launched the hashtag #JusticeForQaadirAndNaazir to demand further investigation and awareness. A GoFundMe was also created to support funeral costs.

Adding to the controversy, Scott Kerlin, a 42-year-old volunteer firefighter in Towns County, was arrested and charged with misdemeanor obstruction after he allegedly took and publicly shared graphic photos from the crime scene. Kerlin, who responded to the call as a first responder, has not commented on the incident.

The GBI confirmed that both teens were found with gunshot wounds and reiterated that the official ruling on their deaths will be made after forensic analysis is complete. Family members, however, remain unconvinced and are pushing for answers.

“We are not going to sweep this case under the rug,” said Yasmine Brawner. “We want to know the truth of what happened to Qaadir and Naazir so our family can have closure. There are so many unanswered questions that keep us up at night.”
