The Ogun State Police Command has affirmed its intention to prosecute a pastor, Adeleye Dada, accused of raping the teenage daughter of one of his church members in the Gasline area of Ifo Local Government Area of the state.

The command’s Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, made this known to PUNCH Online in a telephone interview on Monday.

Odutola disclosed that the teenage girl had reportedly gone missing from home on January 8, and despite her mother's efforts to locate her, all attempts proved futile.

Dada purportedly took the girl to another church, distinct from his own, informing the pastor there that the girl was engaged in a prayer that required her to remain within the church premises.

The mother, Joke Adekunle, recounted the incident in a video shared by the PPRO, stating that her daughter vanished after she scolded her for misconduct. In response, she restricted her from accompanying her to the shop as a form of punishment.

Adekunle further explained that upon returning home, she found her daughter’s belongings scattered and some clothes missing, indicating that she had packed clothes in her school bag before leaving.

She immediately contacted her pastor to apprise him of the situation, but he did not respond to her calls, attributing it to his faulty phone.

Adekunle also mentioned that the pastor was present at her house on the morning her daughter disappeared, witnessing the scolding she administered to her daughter and even reproving her for cursing her.

According to her, “My pastor also joined in searching for her during the period we were searching for her. His wife also supported us in the search. It was some days ago that she called and confessed to us that she was abducted by the pastor.”

On interrogation by the police, the victim revealed that the pastor has been raping her since 2021, and that this last incident, he took her to an uncompleted building where the crime occurred.

The PPRO disclosed that the matter is under investigation and that the pastor will be arraigned upon the conclusion of the investigation.
