The Ogun State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has apprehended a suspect identified as Samuel Adewunmi, also known as "Ifa Science," for allegedly inflicting grievous bodily harm on a two-month-old baby in a suspected ritual-related incident.
According to the NSCDC Public Relations Officer, Dyke Ogbonnaya, the arrest followed a tip-off from the infant's father, Kola Taiwo, who noticed a cut on the back of his baby's head. Upon receiving the report, NSCDC operatives swiftly moved to arrest the suspect, who is currently undergoing investigation at the command's intelligence and investigations department.
The NSCDC has stated that the offense is punishable under the Criminal Laws of Ogun State. The State Commandant, Remilekun Ekundayo, emphasized the importance of parental vigilance and warned individuals against causing harm to others, stating that the Corps would ensure that justice is served in accordance with the law.
This incident underscores the ongoing concerns regarding ritual-related crimes in Nigeria, particularly those involving vulnerable individuals such as children. Authorities continue to urge the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to law enforcement agencies.
