Shakira’s highly anticipated performance at Boston’s Fenway Park was abruptly canceled just hours before showtime due to structural concerns with the stage setup, prompting safety concerns and widespread disappointment among fans.
The concert, originally scheduled for Thursday as part of Shakira’s Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran (Women No Longer Cry) world tour, was set to open the 2025 Fenway Concert Series. The cancellation also affected country music star Jason Aldean’s Friday performance, which was part of his Full Throttle tour and was to feature fellow artists Brooks & Dunn.

Though the initial announcement cited “unforeseen circumstances,” reports later confirmed that the staging "fell apart" during rehearsals. Boston Inspectional Services inspected the setup and deemed it structurally unsound, prompting the cancellation of both shows out of an abundance of caution. Crews began dismantling the faulty stage setup on Friday.
In a statement, the entertainment company responsible for the events clarified, “During a routine pre-show check, structural elements were identified as not being up to standard, so the shows were canceled. All team members are safe.”

This marks the latest disruption in Shakira’s ongoing tour. Earlier cancellations occurred in Lima, Peru, due to her hospitalization for abdominal issues, and in Medellín, Colombia, after a damaged stage roof raised safety concerns.
Meanwhile, Shakira’s recent show at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey issued a public health alert to attendees, warning of potential measles exposure.

Shakira had expressed her excitement just hours before the Boston concert via a post on X (formerly Twitter), writing: “Boston I’m coming! Will.I.am and Wycleff tomorrow! I can’t ask for more!! And can’t wait to be on stage with all of you!”
Fans reacted swiftly on social media. “Can Jason Aldean bring his own stage or something please we have 24 hours to fix this,” one fan wrote, while another added, “What a disappointment.” A third questioned, “Why does this happen all the time with the big performers?”

It remains unclear whether the Boston concerts will be rescheduled. The Fenway Concert Series is set to continue through September, with performances from Hozier, The Lumineers, Thomas Rhett, the Jonas Brothers, Chris Brown, The Who, and My Chemical Romance still on the lineup.
