Two 20-year-old women from Oregon are facing multiple felony charges after allegedly using a dating app to lure a man into a robbery that escalated into a violent shooting, according to the Benton County Sheriff’s Office. Julia Dell Yepez and Alexa Montano Corral were arrested days apart following a detailed investigation into the May 17 incident in Corvallis.
Authorities say the suspects used Chispa, a dating app catering to Latino and Latina singles, to arrange a meeting with the victim under false pretenses. What the victim believed would be a romantic encounter turned out to be a calculated setup. Law enforcement officials believe the women's true intent was to rob the man, but the plan turned violent, resulting in a shooting.

The incident occurred around 5:30 a.m. near the intersection of Highway 99W and Lakeside Drive. When deputies arrived on the scene, they discovered the male victim suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported to a nearby hospital where he remains in stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries.
Witnesses at the scene reported seeing two Hispanic women fleeing on foot. One suspect was described as wearing a long-sleeve black shirt, a detail that later helped investigators identify one of the perpetrators.
Yepez was arrested on May 21 and has been charged with attempted murder, first-degree assault, kidnapping, and several additional felony counts. She is being held at Benton County Jail with bail set at $300,000. Corral was taken into custody two days later on May 23 and faces multiple conspiracy-related charges connected to the planned attack. Her bail is set at $250,000.

Investigators have also linked both women to additional alleged criminal activity in a nearby county, though specific information about those incidents has not yet been released.
In light of the case, the Benton County Sheriff’s Office issued a public safety advisory, urging caution for individuals using dating platforms. The agency recommended always meeting in public, avoiding isolation, informing someone of your whereabouts, and trusting personal instincts.
The victim’s identity has not been released due to safety and privacy concerns. The investigation remains active as authorities work to determine whether there are more victims or accomplices involved in the case.
